FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is OpeningSpy?
OpeningSpy generates opponent-preparation reports for chess players from public Lichess games. You enter an opponent's Lichess username and get their openings as White and Black with frequency and score, their weak spots, time-control tendencies, how they lose, and a concrete game plan for both colours.
How much does it cost?
$5 per report, or $15 for a 5-report pack. No account or subscription is needed. Each player page also has a free preview.
How many games are analysed?
Up to the opponent's last 300 rated Lichess games. The report needs at least 40 rated games, with 15 or more as each colour.
How long does a report take?
Usually 10–40 seconds after payment.
Does it work with Chess.com?
Not yet. OpeningSpy currently uses only the public Lichess API.
What if my opponent doesn't have enough games?
The report isn't built and the payment is refunded automatically (or the credit is returned).
Can I personalise the report?
Yes. Add your own Lichess username and the game plan is matched to openings you already play.
Can players opt out?
Yes. Any Lichess player can opt out instantly at openingspy.com/takedown by placing a one-time code in their Lichess bio. Cached data is then deleted and no new reports are generated.
Is OpeningSpy affiliated with Lichess?
No. OpeningSpy is independent and uses Lichess's public game data.
Is preparing against an opponent's games allowed?
Yes. Studying an opponent's publicly available games before a game is normal, legal preparation. Using any assistance during a game is not; OpeningSpy is for preparation only.
